Laura Brewer-Yarnall recently graduated with a Masters in Social Design from Maryland Institute College of Art.

Passionate about a wide range of social issues from women's rights to environmental justice to racial equality, she sees a need for systematic change. She believes strongly in getting to the root of the problem to have the greatest effect, implementing new ways of thinking to replace our current system. This past year, Laura has worked with several Baltimore-based organizations on a wide range of different issues.

Her masters thesis focused on how to better communicate medical information to improve patient adherence and experience, developing a clear and concise visual language using pictorial icons and an improved hierarchy of information. She partnered with the Baltimore Veteran's Affairs Hospital and won Design Ignites Change Student Innovation Award first place.

She also holds a BFA in painting (MICA '13). Her work has a strong sense of color, both abstract and figurative, relating to connections with female and queer peers.

Laura is inspired daily by her cats, Charlie and Mu.
